Playdate
Best way to destress & relax!
As a creative, I’m in a high-octane vortex 24/7 — That’s me in Paris France and I love being on the GO, but I find myself over stimulated at times, so I’ve been exploring alternative ways to anchor my energy. I do the obvious stuff — Meditate + work out + eat healthy, but still struggle to quiet my mind at times. Then I started thinking about Occam’s razor (all things being equal, the simplest explanation is usually the right one). And therein lies the answer — GO BACK TO THE BASICS!
The Slinky is one of the coolest minimalist toys I played with as a kid. I realize it’s an inanimate object, but something about it is sentient, as if it lives and breathes :) The way those metal coils expand and contract and the sound they make when they move kept me occupied for hours as a child. Notice how it struts down the staircase like a runway model in the video clip, mad swagger!! The physics still fascinate me in adulthood. Bravo to the American naval engineer (Richard James) who was credited for the invention in the 1940s — Brilliant! I use it (present day) to play, to relax, and as a styling piece in my home (pictured) so the ROI is pretty impressive! Modern-day Slinkys are easy enough to find, but some models don’t function like the iconic original and I know from experience. The true litmus test is whether it can walk down a flight of steps, but keep in mind the casting method you use is important because variables like the depth of the tread and where you place the Slinky on it will impact the yield. Fortunately, I scored a model by Popular Science that works like a charm — It’s available on Amazon so check it out HERE then schedule a playdate with yourself and thank me later :)
