Not Baroque
Large ‘Futura’ Mid-Century Design Table lamp, produced by Peill & Putzler, Germany 1970s
Is deductive reasoning good or bad? Pleading the 5th but I’ll say it’s how I’ve governed my life for longer than I care to admit. I’ve always admired those who know what they want out the womb, make a plan and go after it – I call them pod people (take it as a compliment if you’re in that camp). My wiring is quite the opposite —The process of figuring out what I want, who I am and where I want to be came out of experiencing what I don’t want and where I shouldn’t be. I can’t say whether this was right, but it’s been my journey, albeit time-consuming and painful at times.
In retrospect, there were always light bulbs (dimly lit) illuminating the path that would serve me the most. I remember writing a paper in college on classical architecture and being so excited about it because it was all Venus energy (culture, design, aesthetics and so on). I’ll never forget a quote I read while doing research for the paper: “Harmony of all the parts in whatsoever subject it appears fitted together with such proportion and connection that nothing can be added, diminished or altered but for the worse” authored by Leone Battista Alberti (a renaissance man from the 15th century) - Still gives me chills! This is when I started learning about different design periods with BAROQUE being one of them — A highly adored style that does the most and is also the polar opposite to my minimalist style in present day. That was 30 years ago and I think I knew then I was passionate about design and the arts, but of course I went LEFT and studied Business Management instead, crazy!
Any ho, I bought the lamp shown earlier this year (love the space-age feel) – It had to be shipped from Austria and was worth every penny. Guess what type of glass that is at the top? Ummm, BAROQUE….the irony! :) So grateful to have found my way back to pursing the things that truly feed my soul!
